A riveting behind-the-scenes look at life as the rhythm guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder of the all-female, multi-platinum selling band, the Go-Go’s, both on and off the stage.

The Go-Go’s were the first all-woman rock group to write all their own material and land at the top of the Billboard charts. As their guitarist, songwriter, and lyricist, Jane Wiedlin was a revolutionary and her memoir promises to be an evocative portrait of an era. Rising from the early punk scene in Los Angeles, the Go-Go’s first hit the public consciousness with “We Got the Beat.” They reached the pinnacle of rock success, only to splinter apart in a haze of touring, drugs, sex, and mayhem that would put the Rolling Stones to shame. Jane Wiedlin’s memoir will capture all of this and more in a memoir that’s as candid as it is inspiring.

When The Go-Go’s first hit the scene, the idea of an all-woman rock band was greeted with everything from amazement to withering condescension. The rock press frequently dismissed them as a novelty act, even as indelible, exquisitely crafted hit singles like “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “Vacation” burned up the charts. A quintessential tale of rock and roll excess, Los Angeles style, deeply rooted in the punk scene they’d quickly outgrow for pop stardom, Wiedlin also shares her stories of struggles with mental illness, drug abuse, ad self-doubt. She tells about her time working in a BDSM dungeon, how she became ordained as the world’s first atheist minister, and how she learned to become a songwriter and musician with no training whatsoever. Jane Wiedlin’s memoir vividly captures the wild ride with insight, candor, humor, and a tough vulnerability befitting of the pluckiest member of The Go-Go’s.
